Who Am I?

The Story Behind My Lens

I have always been connected with the land. From the early days of being a student at an agricultural college, to living in places like Yorkshire, the People’s Republic of China, London, and eventually Shropshire.

My Story & My Journey

I am Jason Hornby, and I love photographing both the landscape and the night sky; I love the connection between the land, sea and sky and its constantly shifting dramatic, ethereal beauty.

My own journey into the photographic world started when I was a nipper and I would use a disposable or Polaroid camera to take photos of people at family gatherings and on holiday.

Chasing Natural Beauty in Every Shot

Seascape

From crashing waves to tranquil shores, the land meets the sea as I capture these moments to reflect the raw, ever-changing beauty of the coastline.

Astrophotography

Capturing the celestial wonders of the night sky as the vastness of the universe, immortalises the stars, planets, and galaxies in awe-inspiring detail.

Landscape

Whether it’s sweeping hills, dramatic mountain ranges, or quiet valleys, each scene is an expression of my love for the untamed beauty of the land.

My Lifelong Love for Photography

Since those innocent days of trying to get great shots of family and friends, my photographic journey has shifted from people with familiar faces, to capturing the wonder and awe of the landscape and the night sky.

This exploration has been further galvanised by my travels on family holidays to far-flung places such as New York, Monte Carlo, Tangiers and Spain. Locations that have exposed me to scenery and cultures that are very different to those within the United Kingdom.

As I reflect on my life so far, I realise that photography has always been a fundamental part of me. It defines who I am and enables me to express my appreciation for the world around us through the art forms of landscape and astrophotography.

The Tools Of My Trade

My focus, if you’ll pardon the pun, is on the landscape and the night sky. By capturing the vastness of these natural wonders in a single image, I hope to convey the sense of wonder and awe that I feel when I behold them. My intention is to share this amazement with you, allowing these images to transport you, if only for a moment.

Previously, I used a Canon 450D to take all my photographs. Although a trusted workhorse, I have now progressed to a Canon R5 MkII. An excellent camera that provides the flexibility I need, allowing me to finally bring my vision to life.

While currently I’m absorbed with capturing the stunning landscape and the night sky we have within the United Kingdom, in the not too distant future, I will be looking to go further afield.
